A thread through the Bible

God Moves In

From the garden to the tabernacle to Jesus to you.

  1. Genesis 3:8

Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the breeze of the day, and they hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

In the beginning God walked with people in the garden. Sin made them hide.

  2. Exodus 25:8

And they are to make a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them.

God asks for a tent: “Have them make a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them.”

  3. Exodus 40:34

Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

The cloud covers the tent and God's glory fills the tabernacle.

  4. 1 Kings 8:11

so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud. For the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.

The glory fills Solomon's temple so fully that the priests can't stand to minister.

  5. Ezekiel 10:18

Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and stood above the cherubim.

Because of the people's sin, Ezekiel watches the glory leave the temple.

  6. John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The glory comes back in a person: the Word became flesh and “tabernacled” (pitched His tent) among us.

  7. John 2:19

Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.

Jesus says the temple is His body: destroy it, and I will raise it in three days.

  8. 1 Corinthians 6:19

    Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Now your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.

  9. Revelation 21:3

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.

The ending: “The dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them.” The garden is restored.
